Coating Process EngineerKelly Engineering is seeking a Coatings Process Engineer for a direct hire position at a consumer products company in West Chicago, IL.

Salary/Pay Rate/Compensation:
$100,000-110,000Overview Our client is a leader in the consumer products industry.
This facility houses their R&D/New Product Development team where ideation, design, prototyping, testing & validation, manufacturing process development occurs.
As part of this team, you will develop and improve upon the mass application of coatings to products.
You will work with a variety of coatings processes for a variety of materials such as wood, metal, and engineered materials.
Focus will be application of the coating to the material for new products, coating durability & testing, coating mass production process development and launch.
Responsibilities:
Coating Development:
Lead the development of advanced coatings processes focusing on improvements in performance, appearance, and environmental impact.
Work with coating suppliers on material applications and new technologies for new products.
Define new coatings requirements including:
Testing and Evaluation:
Work with lab to design and conduct experiments to evaluate coating formulations and application methods, including adhesion, durability, weather resistance, and performance under various conditions.
Materials Research:
Collaborate with material suppliers to identify and evaluate new coating materials and technologies that align with product and sustainability goals.
Work with plant manufacturing team to define coating mass production requirements and determine new production line requirements.
For projects requiring new finishing lines:
Plant layout for finishing line Selection of personnel, equipment and appropriate vendors Project budget justification and adherence Project scheduling and line start-up Create and execute testing and project performance monitoring protocols.
Quality Control:
Establish and maintain quality control procedures to ensure that coatings meet industry standards and internal quality requirements.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of coating formulations, test results, and process parameters.
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations related to coating materials and processes.
Cross-functional Collaboration:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development, engineering, and quality assurance, to support new product launches and continuous improvement efforts.
Qualifications:
Bachelor or Master Degree in Chemical Engineering.
Coatings experience from lab testing through launching mass production material coatings process, including:
Process experience in any of the following areas:
Powder coating, water or oil-based paint, polymer or polyurethane, robotic spray applications.
Defining & executing the testing, quality, process for the coating, and the coating application.
Competencies in coating chemistry, material adhesion, process & project engineering is required.
Working knowledge of quality management systems and regulatory requirements related to coatings.
Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools.
Strong problem-solving and project management skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
