Manager - Quality Systems - Chemicals

Position Summary

The Manager, Branch Quality Systems will be the chemical manufacturing branch expert in the understanding and implementation of the ISO 9001 standard, supporting the Companies over all Quality Management System. This position will champion, support, and lead all local quality improvement initiatives, which includes ensuring that all managers, process owners, and supervisors, develop and maintain their part of the Quality Management System. Partnerships and collaboration will be two key factors in the success of this position, with departments such as; engineering, plant manufacturing and product development. This position will also be responsible for overseeing and managing the manufacturing facility s Quality Control laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • 25% of the time you will: Lead, motivate and direct employees using effective performance management techniques, including establishing expectations and goals, providing recognition and feedback, and addressing performance problems. Coach, encourage, and develop employees according to their unique interests and strengths. Empower employees to take responsibility for their career and performance. Delegate responsibility and expect accountability and regular feedback. Foster a spirit of teamwork and unity among department members and the organization.
  • 25% of the time you will: Analyze and update quality documentation (work instructions, test procedures, internal references, forms, product and material specification sheets, etc.), making certain that current practices are being documented. Manage and monitor all branch related corrective actions (CARs), working with CAR leads to be sure a root cause analysis has been performed correctly to prevent reoccurring issues. Conduct management review meetings with department managers; evaluating the continued suitability and effectiveness of the branch s Quality Management System, by analyzing and sharing performance data against defined parameters to determine potential improvements/improvement projects. Conduct all Quality related training for existing and new employees.
  • 25% of the time you will: Specific Laboratory Responsibilities to include Support production operations by managing the technical lab staff that are performing routine and non-routine chemical testing of raw materials, bulk products, finished goods, stability samples, and validation samples. Ensure test methods and test criteria are in compliance with customer and industry requirements, by partnering with Engineering.
  • 15% of the time you will: Investigate all reported and suspected non-conforming (NCR) product, following company established procedures. Coordinate with the corporate office, specifically Engineering and Quality, for all companywide non-conforming product.
  • 5% of the time you will: Participate and be the representative for all branch audits. This includes coordinating with the Company Quality Audit Manager for internal and external audits; such as UL, CE Mark, FM, ICC, IAPMO, and ISO. Product, Lean, and Supplier audits may also be applicable for the branch.
  • 5% of the time you will: Participate with the Companies Quality Manager network world wide, which includes monthly meetings and annual summits, led by the Director of Global Quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor s Degree (B. A./B. S.) from a four-year college or university required
  • Bachelor s Degree (B. A./B. S.) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or similar preferred
  • ISO 9001:2008 and/or 9001:2015 Certified/Trained preferred
  • LEAN Leadership and/or Six Sigma training certification preferred
  • 3 years Quality Management experience in a fast paced manufacturing environment
  • 4 years Related experience in a Chemical environment
  • 2 years Management/Leadership of others
  • Teamwork: Ability to build and sustain cooperative working relationships.
  • Math: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Language/Writing/Speaking: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Analysis/Reasoning: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with MS SharePoint and Smartsheet is preferred.

Travel Required

This position requires 10% domestic travel

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
